Today knowing the basics of good health and anti-aging, can probably extend the lifespan of healthy middle aged individuals to 100 plus years or more. So far no supplement or combination of supplements can totally correct telomere dysfunction or all the symptoms of aging but many promising advances have been made and are being made. When used judiciously, supplements may be able to extend one's life a few years. Dozens of supplements (ref) effectively deal with some aspects of aging. Five of the most basic, effective and readily available supplements are:

DMAE: also known as Dimethylethanolamine or Dimethylaminoethanol or Deanal is a naturally occurring nutrient that enhances acetylcholine and RNA synthesis. It complements L_Carnosine supplementation. Good acetylcholine levels are needed for proper memory function. Ref1 Ref2 Ref3   Daily DMAE doses of up to 1,600 mg have no significant side effects.

DMAE supplementation benefits include:
- Flush lipofuscin (waste product that build up with age) from the body (use with Carnosine).
- Inhibits and reverses protein crosslinking.
- Enhances brain function by increasing attention span, alertness, intelligence, and "willpower".
- Promotes sound sleep and increases dream lucidity.

Acetyl-l-carnitine: ALC is a special form of L-carnitine that complements L-carnosine by flushing out lipfuscin from the body and brain. ALC (not ordinary L-carnitine) is water soluble and can pass through the inner mitochondrial wall, most cell membranes, and the blood/brain barrier. This implies it can slow down the brain's aging process. ALC effects are noticed a few hours after ingestion.
Supplementation benefits include:

- Improved immune system and muscle function.
- Improved the release of and synthesis of acetylcholine and choline acetylase.
- Enhanced dopamine release and binding to dopamine receptors.
- Stimulate/maintain new neuron growth, Stops myelin sheath breakdown.
- Slows dopamine, glucocorticoid, NMDA, and nerve growth factor receptor loss.
- Improved long + short term memory, learning ability, attention span,
  mental sharpness,  focus,and alertness.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids: have many health/anti-aging benefits. You have to be careful not
to take too much because it may make your blood too thin (Safe amounts of Omega-3)(Omega-3)
A few of Omega-3 benefits are:
-slows down aging by preserving telomeres.
-anti-inflammatory properties: beneficial for heart disease, arthritis, diabetes (type 2),
Alzheimer's disease, and many other conditions.
-lowering levels of depression.

L-carnosine: is a strong antioxidant and heavy metal scavenger. It may prevent/reverse protein glycation or cross linking and can quickly slow/reverse certain effects of aging at the cellular and organ level. In one study a carnosine medium extended cell life 300% (413 days vs 139 days for the control cells). In a Russian study, mice on carnosine were twice as likely to reach their maximum lifespan and showed less outward "signs of old age".  Carnosine can increase the Hayflick limit in human fibroblasts. It seems to slow down the rate at which telomeres shorten. Carnosine levels fall off  with age. Some experts suggest taking up to 1,500 mg of carnosine on a daily basis.

HGH: human growth hormone has many beneficial effects but I don't recommend using HGH directly. It is expensive and can be dangerous to use. It is often administered through medically supervised periodic injections. Fortunately HGH levels can be naturally raised by strenuous exercise, certain amino acids (Ref1) (Ref2) (Ref3), and other supplements (ex.  GAMA).

Basic Anti-aging Supplements - these supplements can be obtained at many places but I recommend using Amazon. Amazon products meet high quality standards before they are listed. Intense pricing competition assures products are reasonably priced. High website maintenace due to frequent product turnover means I can no longer list individual supplements. Instead I have provided a link to Amazon.

Clicking on the Amazon banner sends you to Amazon. The Search bar is conveniently located at the top of the page. Search for your supplement (ex. Omega3 Fish Oil). Select the most reasonably priced product. Pricewise providers compete with each other, even for the exact same product. Use the back arrow to return to this site.
